Question
A roach that runs for its life because you try to hit it with your physics book runs off the horizontal tabletop with a speed of 0.64 m/s. It strikes the floor a horizontal distance 0.343 m away from the edge of the table. Ignore air resistance.
Find the height of the table?
What will be the horizontal component of the roach's velocity just before it hits the floor?
PLEASE keep in mind this is a physics without calc class. I can only use the three formulas for motion at a constant acceleration for x & y to solve this question.Show the steps. Thanks!
Explanation / Answer
Horizontal motion:
d = vt 0.343 = (0.64)(t) ===> t = 0.536 s
Vertical motion:
h = gt^2 / 2 = (9.8)(0.536)^2 / 2 = 1.4 m (rounded to two significant digits)
