Question

Batman is wondering how much air there is in one of the tires on the Batmobile that looks a little low. The Joker seems to have stolen his tire gauge (and some of the air in the tire!), but Batman still has his trusty Bat-ruler and his Bat owner's manual.

According to the manual, Batman looks up that the tires *should* have 30 psi (pounds per square inch) and that the Batmobile's mass is 1550 kg. Batman decides that it still seems reasonable to assume that each of the tires is supporting one-fourth of the weight.

Batman measures the tire and finds that it is 21 cm wide and the flattened segment of the tire in contact with the road is 25 cm long.

Given this information, find the pressure in the tire.
psi

Hint: Robin says, "Holy Strange Units, Batman! 1 psi = 6895 Pa!"

Explanation / Answer

10.5psi
