Light entering the eye falls on the retina, which contains neurons that are modified into photosensitive cells, the rods, and the cones. The human eye contains about 125 million rods and 7 million cones. The rods and cones contain pigments that absorb light energy, causing rapid (within nanoseconds) breakdown of the pigments. This change stimulates the nerve fiber leading to the brain. The final product of the breakdown is a form of vitamin A, which can be stored in the retina and later reconverted to photosensitive pigments. Night blindness is a condition in which people see well in the daytime but very poorly at night. Using Figure 4, suggest a mechanism and a cure for this affliction.Explanation / Answer
The night blindness is caused when vitamin A is deficiceint in the body and can be reversed with treatment. Treatment of vitamin A deficiency can be given to the pateints with night blindness.. the photoreceptive pigment in dark is not able to convert itself to the vitamin A that is why we need vitamin A storage in retina and the pateints with vitamin A defeciency will not see in night time so the VIt A treatment by oraly or by injection can be given to the pateint to cure the nightbllindness
