Explanation / Answer

Starvation and uncontrolled diabetic mellitus can both result in -

Ans) Ketoacidosis, imply that the body of a person with uncontrolled diabetic mellitus is acting metabolically as though it is starving.

Explain- During starvation or low level of blood sugar present in the blood (in diabetic mellitus or the deficiency of the insulin) the amount blood sugar is less in the blood. The brain, RBC rely on glucose as their primary fuel. Due to the scarecity of the glucose, ketone bodies are produced in the mitochondrial hepatocytes. As OAA is less in the mitochondria, so TCA cycle does not take place and their is no possibility of the gluconeogenesis. Then ketone bodies are formed and brain rely on this organis acid as secondary fuel. When large amt. of ketone bodies are circulated in the blood the pH of the plasma decreases. In order to maintain the pH of the blood kidney compensate by making the urine more acidic.in diabetic ketoacidosis, In diabetic ketosis, the ketone bodies production exceed and the ability of the kidney is compensated by decreasing the pH of the blood.

For the reaction of the ketone bodied metabolism-

Ans) NADH is produced by the catabolism of BETA-HYDROXYBUTYRATE.

Explain- This is reversible conversion between two ketone bodies beta-hydroxybutyrate and acetoacetate and NAD is required as a cofactor. Thus NADH is produced in this reaction by the enzyme beta-Hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase.
