1-Explain how two flies with normal wings have offspring with vestigial wings 2- You mate two gray normal winged flies and get offspring which are all gray but 25% of them have vestigial wings. What are the genotypes of the flies you mated? Explain your answer 3-Explain how many phenotypes are there for a trait that has two alleles that are governed by incomplete dominance. 4- Explain how many phenotypes are there for a trait that has two alleles that are governed by co- dominance

Explanation / Answer

Question 1 and 2 answered.

Say wildtype is the dominant phenotype. The genotype can be WW, or Ww. Since W codes for the dominant phenotype. Hence vestigial wing will only appear if the fly is homozygous for the recessive allele w. Therefore say you cross two heterozygous (Ww) fruit flies for Wing type. F1 will have 25 percent chance of having (ww) or vestigial wings as shown below

Gametes W w W WW (Normal) Ww(Normal) w Ww(Normal) ww (Vestigial)
