Question
please solve this two quiestions they are related to each other !!
8. (3 points) You have a choice. You may get hit head-on either by an adult moving slowly on a bicycle or by a child that is moving twice as fast on a bicycle. The mass of the child and bicycle is one-half that of the adult and bicycle. Considering only the issues of initial momentum, which collision do you prefer? Account for your answer. 9. (3 points) Could the answer to problem #8 change if other issues are considered? If so, what? If not, why not?Explanation / Answer
8)
here , as force acting during a collision = change in kientic energy/distance moved
if we assume that the distance moved during collision is same for both man and child
let the speed of man is v and mass of child is m
Now, for the man ,
force = 0.5 * 2 * m * v^2 /d
force = mv^2/d
for the child
force = 0.5 * m * (2v)^2/d
force = 2 mv^2/d
Hence ,
as the force of collision is higher for the child , I would prefer to gat hit by slowly moving adult
9)
yes , the answer can change if we consider other factors ,
for example , if we consider the collision to be taking same time rather than same distance
then , force acting = change in momentum /time
hence , the answer will change
