If the pol A of E.coli is mutated such thatit lacks 3' - 5' activity the following effects are possible on acell or on the organism as a whole: The role of pol A's 3' - 5' exonuclease activity isto remove any mismatched bases from the 3' end. So if mismatched bases are left and so the mistakes in the DNAcannot be rectified. Hence the rate of replication may not be altered much.It maybe a little fast as there is no proofreading function.
