Question

A 1080
resistor is rated at 2.38 W.
What is the maximum current through this
resistor?
Answer in units of A.
010 (part 2 of 3) 10.0 points
If the maximum current has been passing
through the resistor for 29 minutes, how many
Coulombs of charge passes through the resis-
tor in this period?
Answer in units of C.
011 (part 3 of 3) 10.0 points
Denote the amount of charge in part 2 by
Q. Consider the passage of the same maxi-
mum current as in Part 2 through two 1080

resistors connected in series.
How much charge passes through any cross
section in this resistor series in 29 minutes?

Explanation / Answer

The resistance of the resistor R = 1080 The power rated P = 2.38 W The maximum current is given by           P = I^2 R then I = P/R            = (2.38W) /1080 = 0.046 A When the maximum current passing through for a time interval t = 29 min The charge Q = It = (0.046 A) (29*60 sec)                                = 80 C When we connect two 1080 resistors are in series                  R = 2(1080) = 2160 then the charge   Q = (0.046A)(29*60) = 80C since when we allow same current and for same time the charge shouldbe same.
