Question

Workers have loaded a delivery truck in such a way that its center of gravity is only slightly forward of the rear axle, as shown in the drawing. The mass of the truck and its contents is 8425 kg. Find the magnitudes of the forces exerted by the ground on the following.

(a) the front wheels
___________N

(b) the rear wheels of the truck
__________N

There is a diagram but I can't copy and paste it so I'll just explain it.

(cg)
|---------|---------------------|
63m 2.30m

with that thing being the truck. The cg is right in front of the rear as the problem states. THanks!

Explanation / Answer

So the truck is 63 meters long and its center of mass is 2.3 meters from the rear end? if that's the case then the problem can be thought of as a ratio of mass from front to rear, for instance if the center of mass were in the exact middle than 1 N on the rear wheels for every 1N on the front wheels. So what I figure is that 60.7(the length from c.o.m. to the front axle) divided by 2.3(length from c.o.m. to rear axle) would tell you how many more times force the ground must exert on the rear wheels than the front wheels. So the ground pushes 26.4 times harder on the rear wheels then on the front. set this up as an algebra problem 26.4 times the weight on the front plus the weight on the front must sum to the total weight. from this x will equal weight of front wheeels and 26.4 x will equal weight on rear wheels. 26.4x + x = 8425 kg * 9.8 m/s^2. x= 3013.32=weight on front axle. 26.4x=79551.65N =weight on rear axle.
