Question

The driver of a car wishes to pass a truck that is traveling at a constant speed of 19.3 m/s. Initially, the car is also traveling at a speed 19.3 m/s and its front bumper is a distance 23.0 in behind the truck's rear bumper. The car begins accelerating at a constant acceleration 0.610 m/s^2. then pulls back Into the truck's lane when the rear of the car is a distance 26.7 m ahead of the front of the truck. The car is of length 4 20 m and the truck is of length 20.4 m How much time is required for the car to pass the truck? What distance does the car travel during this time? What is the final speed of the car?

Explanation / Answer

a.)

net displacement = 23+20.4+4.2 = 47.6 m

using equn of motion

S = ut + 0.5 at^2

47.6 = 19.3 *t + 0.5 * 0.61 *t^2

t = 2.377 sec

time required to pass the truck by car = 2.377 sec

B.)net displacement = 23+20.4+4.2 = 47.6 m

C.) using equn of motion

V^2 = U^2 + 2*a*S { V is final velocity and U is initial velocity }

V^2 = 19.3^2 + 2 * 0.61 * 74.3

v = 21.5 m/s
