Question
A body with mass m=1kg and initial veolicity =0 m/s slides down along an inclined plane from point A at height h1 =10m (see figure). After passing a horizontal region region (B-C) the body elevates on the next inclined plane up to a point D and then moves back reaching the maximum elevation at height h2 =5m on the first inclined plane. The is not affected by any fricition except the part between point B and C with length L=5m, where there is a friction between the body and the surface.
a. Find the friction coefficent in the region BC.
b. Find the elevation h3.
Explanation / Answer
a)change in PE=mg(h1-h2)=work done by friction=2µmgL 10-5=2*µ*5 µ=0.5 B) energy @ h=5m =mg*5 energy left after another trip = 5mg-2µmgL=5mg-5mg=0 so 0=mgh3 give h3=0
