7. 0/5 points ! Previous Answers KatzPSEf14.PO79. A circus cat has been trained to leap off a 12-m-high platform and land on a pillow. The cat leaps off at Vo = 3.3 m/s and an angle = 370 (see figure below). (a) Where should the trainer place the pillow so that the cat lands safely? d3.624 Your response differs from the correct answer by more than 10%. Double check your calculations. m (b) What is the cat's velocity as she lands in the pillow? (Express your answer in vector form.) Vf= 2.6351+15.474] X m/s Need Help? oadWatch Watch It

Explanation / Answer

here,

height , h0 = - 12 m

intial velocity , u = 3.3 m/s

theta = 37 degree

a)

let the time taken to hit the ground be t

h0 = 0 - 0.5 * g * t^2

- 12 =0 + 0.5 * 9.81 * t^2

solving for t

t = 1.56 s

the horizontal distance , x = u * cos(theta) * t

x = 3.3 * cos(37) * 1.56 m

x = 4.1 m

b)

the horizontal velocity , vx = u * cos(theta)

vx = 3.3 * cos(37) = 2.64 m/s

the vertical velocity , vy = u * sin(theta) - g * t

vy = 3.3 * sin(37) - 9.81 * 1.56 m/s

vy = - 13.3 m/s

the cat's velocity vector , v = (2.64 i - 13.3 j) m/s
