PHYSICS 2401 Lab Homework-Ammeter and Voltmeter Determination This homework will be due when you come to lab the week of October 16. You are given some batteries and wires (assume as many as you need) and two lightbulbs in holders. You are also given two meters The meters have three settings: Off, Voltage, and Current. The voltage and current settings are not labeled. Describe in the space below how you would determine which setting is which on the meters. Be detailed and specific. Feel free to include drawings. They are not required but could prove helpful. Assume you will not overload the meters on either setting.( 20 pts)Explanation / Answer
Take a battery and just toggle the switch on the meter to a random option. It can be either voltage or current we will see. At off there won't be any display.
If the meter shows a non-zero valuesay for eg 5. Then it is the voltage option. It shows you the emf of the battery, the resistance( internal ) of the battery is negligible hence, according to ohm's V = IR, I is not defined inside the battery and it won't show any value if it was the current option.
