Part A A 400 g ball moves in a vertical circle on a 1.05 m -long string. If the speed at the top is 3.90 m/s,then the speed at the bottom will be 7.51 m/s What is the ball's weight? Express your answer with the appropriate units. Value Units Submit My Answers Give Up Part B What is the tension in the string when the ball is at the top? Express your answer with the appropriate units. ? Value Units Submit My Answers Give Up What is the tension in the string when the ball is at the bottom? Express your answer with the appropriate units

Explanation / Answer

Part i

Weight=mass x (acceleration due to gravity)

or W=mg

m is given to you in the question(it must be in SI units i.e. Kg's)

So, m = 0.4kg

g=9.8 m/s^2

so W=(0.4)(9.8)

W = 3.92 N (ans)

Part ii

for this part you need to use the formula

Centriptial Force(i.e. in this case Tension)=mass*velocity(squared)/radius of motion

T=mv^2/r

T=(0.4)(3.9)^2/1.05

T = 5.79 N (ans)

Part iii

Same formula again

T=(0.4)(7.51)^2/1.05

T = 21.49N (ans)
