Question
A hydraulic lift is used to raise a 15,000-N object. Theradius of the lift shaft is 8 cm and that of the input cylinder 1cm. Find (a) the pressure in the life cylinder in N/cm^2, (b)the pressure in the input cylinder, (c) the input force, (d) themechanical advantage. I got this question wrong on my homework. The teacher did notgo over the homework with us nor did she give us the answer to thehomework. Something similar like this might be on my exam and ireally want to understand how to do it. Can someone please do thisfor me. Thank you. A hydraulic lift is used to raise a 15,000-N object. Theradius of the lift shaft is 8 cm and that of the input cylinder 1cm. A hydraulic lift is used to raise a 15,000-N object. Theradius of the lift shaft is 8 cm and that of the input cylinder 1cm. Find (a) the pressure in the lift cylinder in N/cm^2
pressure=force/area=15000/3.14*8*8=74.64N/cm^2
, (b) the pressure in the input cylinder,
Fi=FoAi/Ao=15000*1/64=234.375N
pressure=force/area=234.375/3.14*1*1=74.64N/cm2
(c) the input force,
force=234.375N
(d) the mechanical advantage.
15000/234.375=64
