Function of Spleen
Two areas of spleen have different major function.
Red pulp area is responsible for mechanical filtration of RBC. While white pulp region is responsible for active immune response through humoral and cell-mediated pathways.
There are some minor functions too.
Spleen helps in production of opsonins, properdin, and tuftsin.
Until the fifth month of gestation spleen is the site of creation of RBC.
Spleen acts as storage of red blood cells, lymphocytes and other formed elements.
