Would you please help me solve this problem? Muchappreciated.
1. This question is about electrical energy andassociated phenomena.Current electricity A
cell of electromotive force (e.m.f.) E and internalresistance r is connected in series with a
resistor R, as shown below.
The cell supplies 8.1 × 10 3 J of energy when 5.8 ×10 3 C of charge moves completely round the
circuit. The current in the circuit is constant.
(i) Calculate the e.m.f. E of the cell.
(ii) The resistor R has resistance 6.0 . The potentialdifference between its terminals is
1.2 V. Determine the internal resistance r of the cell.
(iii) Calculate the total energy transfer in the resistor R.
Explanation / Answer
a. EMF E = Network done / net charge moved = 8.1* 103 / 5.8 * 103 = 1.40 V = 1.40 V b. EMF, terminal potentialdifference (V = 1.2 V) and internal resistance are related as E = V + I* r also V = I* R I = 1.2/ 6.0 = 0.2 A => 1.4 = 1.2 + 0.2* r internalresistance r = (1.4- 1.2) / 0.2 = 1.0 c. Energy transferred toresistor ER = V* q = 1.2* 5.8 * 103 = 6.96* 103 J = 6.96* 103 JRelated Questions
