Answer- Glucose oxidation is an exergonic reaction.During the many enzymatic reaction steps, some of the energy of broken bonds is used to synthesize ATP. The direct method of synthesizing this molecule is called substrate level phosphorylation. In the indirect method of oxydative phosphorylation energy is first release to coenzyme (i ,e NAD+,FAD)that then transfer the energy to form ATP.
Explanation- glucose oxidation is an exergonic reaction or energy producing reaction in which energy is produced in the form of ATP synthesis by mean of many enzymatic steps.
Glucose oxydation involves 3 stages.
Glycolysis
Krebs cycle
Oxydative phosphorylation or electron transport chain
In glycolysis glucose molecule is broken down into two molecule of pyruvate. This breakdown also release energy which is used to add phosphate ion to ADP to generate ATP which is called substrate level phosphorylation and is a direct method of ATP synthesis.
In Krebs cycle pyruvate molecule produced in glycolysis moves to mitochondria and convert into acetyl coenzyme A.
Acetyl coenzyme A powers the citric acid cycle and release carbon portion of pyruvate molecule into citric acid cycle which runs constantly by producing ATP ,high energy electrons,Carbon dioxide ,3 NADH and 1 FADH2.
Final stage of glucose oxidation is electron transport chain also known as oxydative phosphorylation. It is also occurs I mitochondria by mean of elctron transport system that helps transform the energy of electron captured by NADH and FADH2 into ATP.It is an indirectethod of ATP synthesis.
The total number of ATP obtained after complete oxydative of glucose is estimated to be between 30 to 38.
