Question

PLEASE SHOW ALL STEPS

1.

A golf ball of mass 0.045 kg is hit off the tee at a speed of 34 m/s . The golf club was in contact with the ball for

3.90×103 s .

PART A: Find the impulse imparted to the golf ball. THE ANSWER IS NOT 1.53 ? IDK WHY

2.

A tennis ball of mass m = 0.076 kg and speed

v = 21 m/s strikes a wall at a 45 angle and rebounds with the same speed at 45.

PART A : What is the magnitude of the impulse given to the ball?

3.

A 0.400-kg ice puck, moving east with a speed of 5.22 m/s , has a head-on collision with a 0.990-kg puck initially at rest. Assume that the collision is perfectly elastic.

PART A: What is the speed of the 0.400-kg puck after the collision?

Explanation / Answer

the impulse imparted to the golf ball is

J = change in momentum

= m v

=0.045 kg ( 34 m/s)

=1.53 kg m/s

(2)

J = m(v cos theta - ( v costeta)

J = 2 mv cos theta

= 2 ( 0.076 kg )(21 cos 45

=2.25 kg m/s
