Question

Please help me!

Additional Questions (2 pts) 1) Consider a food source like potatoes that routinely tests negative for proteins. Does this mean that potatoes contain no proteins? Give a short explanation to support your answer. 2) Biuret reagent reacts with peptide bonds in proteins. Peptide bonds form between amino acids by the action of a polymerase enzyme. If you have a 0.1M solution of the amino acid glycine and test it for peptide bonds, would the reaction be positive (purple) or negative? Explain your answer!

Explanation / Answer

1. Potato is negative for biuret test (test for peptides),but it has a protein called papatin, a glycoprotein. Potato gives positive test for ninhydrin (for aminoacids, free NH2 group).

2. Glycine is negative for biuret test. Glycine is an aminoacid and it has no peptide bonds, hence it is negative for biuret test (test for proteins, peptide bonds)
