Question
A test car travels in a straight line along the x axis. The graph in the figure shows the car's position x as a function of time. Find the instantaneous velocity at all points, A-G. Express your answer in meters per second to one decimal place.
Note: This is a problem that my tutor and I have been having some problems with. For example, we got 5 as the velocity for point A (22.5-20/0.5-0) and it was incorrect. All of our other answers were wrong to so maybe we just worked them incorrectly. Therefore, will please show how you solved each instantaneous velocity.
Explanation / Answer
from A to B the slope is constant ( speed is constant)
VA = VB = (40-20)/3 = 6.67 m/s
at C the object is at rest
vC = 0
from c to E the slope is constant
VC = VE = = VF = -40/1 = -40 m/s
VG = 0
