A woman at an airport is towing her 20kg suitcase at constant speed by pulling on a strap at an angle ? above the horizontal. She pulls the strap with a 35N force. The friction force on the suitcase is 20N. a) Draw a free body diagram b) Determine ? c) What normal force does the ground exert on the suitcase? I know the solution but i need a little help understanding it. This is what my first impression of the net forces would be but this is wrong. I need a little help of distinguishing when to put ?Fx=max instead of?Fx=0. Also why isn't mg involve in?Fx??Explanation / Answer
fristly we will see if the force applied by women is enough to overcome the frictional force by fx=0. now here will find minimum force balancing friction. if the woman is applying more then min. force then body will move. now again we will apply Fx=max to find out accleration.
secondly the force components you have written are wrong. you should write force components not mg components.
