Question
Scenario: Susn is a 65-year-old school nurse who has recently retired from an elementary school. She is beginning to feel rather lonely now that she is no longer working. She is a widow with adult children living out of the area. Her children have suggested that she may want to move to their city and be closer to her grandchildren. She has been avoiding these discussions with her family and tells them all is fine. Moving seems like a major upheaval to her. Although she has been in fair health physically, at her last visit to the health care provider, she had lost 10 pounds and is just below her desired weight. See the link to the Overview of the Nursing Process document to assist with this assignment. Initial Discussion Post: Select a developmental theory presented in this module and apply it to the scenario above. Use the chosen theory to address the following: • Explain her behavior. • State two (2) priority nursing concerns and related nursing interventions for her.
Explanation / Answer
Patient background
1. 65 year old
2. Alone at home
3. Retired from job
4. Loss weight
5. Fair health
Susn behaviour
Susn is 65 year lady and she is emotionally touch to her family. Naturally women's are very emotional whenever they think about their family like son and grandchild. She is alone at home and also retired from her job means nobody is there to talk with her , to take food with her and others. Because of this she is mentally depressed and getting more tense whenever she think about the son. Hence her physical state declined because she is not taking food proper or if she taking also but because of worry her weight may get loss.
Nursing concerns and intervention
In this case we have to provide both treatment that is psychological strong and physically fit.
1. Physically well
If you are physically fit then none of disease may touch you, here we provide some exercise to the susn like early morning wakeup and drinking 2 liter water daily including fresh fruits. Why it is necessary because due to this she is engaged in day to day work because whenever she is alone she feel tense of son and worry.
2. Psychological fit
This case is majority concern with the above intervention because she is thinking too much , which result in tension and stress. In this case we motivate her and tell her world is very beautiful and there are more things to see in the world. Tell her don't take worry about son , spend some of time with them and comeback soon. Tell her son also to call her on daily basis because it is also one type of treatment for her.
