(b) Calculate the number of moles of silver ion in the connected Volume of silver nitrate required to titrate the sodium chloride sample. (c) Calculate the molarity of choloride ion in the sample of sodium chloride. 3. How is it possible to use potassium chromate as an indicator for the titration of chloride ion with silver ion when both silver chloride and silver chromate are slightly soluble salts?Explanation / Answer
First of all we assume that the blank has the same quantity of chromate and the same volume of the solution titrated.
To correct the volume we need to substract the volume used in the titulation of the AgCl, less the volume used by the chromate to precipitate in the blank solution .
Then it will be 40.25 mL - 0.15mL= 42.1 mL
moles of silver ion = M/V
n= 0.100 M* 42.1x10-3 L
n= 4.21x10-3 mol
this will be the same moles of Cl in solution.
Then nCl= 4.21x10-3 mol
and the M= 4.21x10-3 mol /25x10-3 L
M = 0.17 M
