1. children of about eight or nine months of age develop object permanence or the awareness that objects continue to exist even when one cannot see them. It is likely that the child in this example was practicing her newly developed cognitive skill.
2. The child is only 9 months old, and it is likely that he is experiencing stranger anxiety. Anxiety around strangers is usually one of the first emotional milestones of children.
3. The child's behaviour is not surprising because his behaviour is being positively reinforced by the mother. In other words, he is receiving attention from her for throwing the bottle.
4. From this example, it appears that the sister lacks the ability to conserve. Conservation is acquired during middle childhood whereby children understand that physical quantities are unchanged, or conserved in the face of spatial or configurational transformations.
