Question

1) Determine the value of Kc for the following reaction if the equilibrium concentrations are as follows: [P4O10]eq = 2.000 moles, [P4]eq = 3.000 moles, [O2]eq = 4.000 M P4O10(s) P4(s) + 5 O2(g)

I know the answer is 4^5 =1024 but I am confused why some parts are in moles and the oxygen is in M (concentration) would the same rules apply if the all the variables were given in moles? Could I still solve the problem using the same equilibrium constant rules? or would there be more to it?

Thanks for the help!

Explanation / Answer

Your answer is absolutely correct .

In writing equilibrium constant expression the concentration of solids is always taken as unity .that is the reason y it is given in moles , where as O2, is gas and concentration of O2 gas must be considered .that's y it is given in moles/L(I.e,M).

Suppose if only moles were given in problem ,we need volume of the container also .
