Explanation / Answer

Organizations use a comprehensive process for developing their information systems. It starts with the organizations evaluating and assessing the structure of their industry. This helps the organizations determine a competitive strategy. The competitive strategy determines the value chains involved in the organization. All these steps determines the business processes. This helps the organization in designing and developing their information systems. The processes consists of coordinated activities, which have to be performed in a particular order. For instance the process should always begin with organizations evaluating and assessing the structure of their industry.

The process within the organization first helps in the development of a generic information system. Later, the generic system can be customized. If the information system is complex, existing information systems are usually redesignedand iteratively improved rather than replaced by a new system.

Initially, the mission of the organization, the goals that follows it, and the necessary steps that will have to be undertaken to achieve these goals are outlined. Next process is to evaluate the technical and managerial aspects of the information system. The technical aspects includes the hardware, operating systems, data management systems, and application software. The managerial aspects outlines the involvement of functional managers, decision making process, etc.
