Question

OK, so I have a mechanism that follows:

Then, the question asks, what is the molecularity of the first step in the mechanism?

It seems to me that it would be bimolecular because it is Br2+H2O however the answer says that it is termolecular. I think that maybe my teacher messed up b/c it is all hand-written worksheets.

I always thought that molecularity was found by the actual components in the reactant side of the problem, not necessarily their number of moles which is the only thing I can imagine she is getting mixed up if so.

Am I right or wrong?

Thanks

Explanation / Answer

Yes you are right. its a bimolecular reaction. molecularity never depends on number of moles.
