Question
I don't know if I am starting this off right and I don't know how to do b-d. Please correct me on a if I'm wrong. A. Show the curved arrow mechanism for the formation of the products B. Predict the pKa of acid and conjugate acid using pKa chart C. Show the direction of the equilibrium by the relative lengths of the reaction arrows oxr 1. For the following acid-base reactions (1.5 points) a. show the curved arrow mechanism for the formation of the products twey can cor hC b. predict the pKa of the acid and conjugate acid using the pKa chartcanjuachion c. show the direction of the equilibrium by the relative lengths of the reaction arrows. odjcicu d. then predict the Keq for these reaction Na ot.tl--. O-..qdExplanation / Answer
as we know that pKa = -log Ka it means that greater the value of pKa lesser will be the value of Ka and the more weaker the acid is .
1) as the pka value of an ester is 25 it means that its Ka will be lesser
(less acidic) and its conjudgate base is more strong .
as the pKa value of a base( NANH2) is 38 greater the value of pKa lesser will be the value of Ka and the more weaker the acid is and its conjugate base is more strong .
above ester act as weak acid and ( NANH2) act as weak base
2) as the pKa value of a acid methanol is 15 greater the value of pKa lesser will be the value of Ka and the more weaker the acid is and its conjugate base is more strong .
as the pKa value alue of lithium butoxide is 17 greater the value of pKa lesser will be the value of Ka and the more weaker the acid is and its conjugate base is more strong .
above methanol act as weak acid and lithium butoxide act as weak base .
3)
as the pKa value of a acid aniline is 30 greater the value of pKa lesser will be the value of Ka and the more weaker the acid is and its conjugate base is more strong .
as the pKa value of sodium hydroxide is greater then above therefore value of pKa lesser will be the value of Ka and the more weaker the acid is and its conjugate base is more strong .
in above aniline act as weak acid and naoh act as strong base .
d)1) let R = benzyl ring
Keq = [product ] /[reactant] =[ RC3O2H4 Na+] [NH3] / [ RC3O2H5] [NaNH2]
2) Keq = [CH3O-Li+] [C4H10] / [CH3OH] [C4H9 Li+]
3) let R denotes = benyl ring
Keq = [RNH2] [Na+] / [RNH3+] [NaOH]
by putting values from pka table we can calculate Keq using above equation .
