Question
I don't know how to begin this problem. Please solve this problem about wine taster for me.
The problem is
THe article "analysis of Reserve and Regular Bottlings: Why pay fora difference only the critics claim to notice?" reported on anexperiment to investigate whether wine tasters could distinguishbetween more expensive reserve wines and their regularcounterparts. Wine was presented to tasters in four containerslabeled A, B, C, and D with two of these containing the reservewine and the other two the regular wine. Each taster randomlyselected three of the containers, tasted the selected wine, andindicated which of the three he/she believed was different from theother two. Of the n= 855 tasting trials, 346 resulted in correctdistinctions (either the one reserve that differed from the tworegular wines or the one regular wine that differed from the tworeserves). Does this provide compelling evidence for concludingthat tasters of this type have some ability to distinguish betweenreserve and regular wines? State and test the reevant hypothesesusing the P-value approach. Are you particularly impressed with theability of tasters to distinguish between the two types ofwine?
I really appreciate it.
Explanation / Answer
binomial distribution called x with n=855, q=.5, p=.5.=np=855(.5)=427.5, =[855(.5)(.5)]=14.6 Let ybe a normal approximation to x with same mean andvariance. Ho :=346 too big or too smallwould p=P(y>346)=P((y-)/>(346-427.5)/14.6)=P(z>-5.582)very close to zero Accept HoRelated Questions
