Question

1.what is the underlying ecological theory to species distributions?

2.What factors may affect the distribution of a species in the short time (< 20 years)? ... in the long time?

3. Does there appear to be a relationship between distance and growth or fitness? Is the relationship positive or negative? What is your interpretation?

4 summarize the differences in community and community composition and suggest possible reasons for the differences. How do the concepts of alpha ( ), beta ( ), and gamma ( ) diversity apply?

5. Which is more important for conservation management, knowledge of community composition or community diversity?explain/.

Explanation / Answer

Answer 1. There are many theories have been proposed regarding species distribution, they are as follow

all the theories given in ecology are for speciese distribution.

Answer 2 . these may be biotic or abiotic factors

Biotic factors- Light , Temperature ,Water availibility etc . These all can affect in very short priod to the species.

Abiotic Factors - presence of compatitors, immigration of invasive species these may affect the species population in short durations.

Answer 3. Relationship betwen distance and growth- fitness in refrence of distance . It may be positive if there is no competition between two or more species or when they can co exist showing mutalism , symbiosis type relation.

May be negative if competiton ,predation type relation is present between two or more species then they must be present as far as possible because they may result in reduction of fitness of any species or may invade which can lead the extinction of one of them .In this way it has negative result on the population of species.

Answer 4. Community;- It is the group of some organism or we can say that group of populations.

Community Composition :- Thesse are the units which consist community. These are biotic as well as abiotic factors that interact and form a community..

So there is clear cut difference between them .

Alpha divrsity :- diversity at a particular location or site (species pool).

Beta diverity :- it tells the species composition of a location. while

Gamma diversity is diversity of entire land or environment.

Answer 5:- for conservation managment we must know its composition because when we know the composition we may handle it carefully with having complete knowledge about them . So that can protect the population and community.
