Question
For the reaction 2A(g)?B(g)+2C(g), a reaction vessel initially contains only A at a pressure of PA=260 mmHg . At equilibrium, PA=40 mmHg .
Calculate the value of Kp. (Assume no changes in volume or temperature.)
Express your answer using two significant figures.
I already tried to solve this but it keeps saying I am incorrect:
R (rate): 2A(g) ? B(g) + 2C(g)
I (inital): 260 0 0
C (change) : -2x +x +2x
E (equilibrium): 40 110 220
Solved for x by using: 40= 260-2x, and I got x=110 as the answer.
I then plugged it back into the equation, (B(g)) x (Cl(g))^2 / A^2 = (110) x (220^2) / 40^2.
The final answer I got for Kp was 3,327.50, but it is incorrect.
Explanation / Answer
what ever you followed is exactly correct but answer might be given in atmosphere
so please convert mmHg in to atmosphere by using 1 atm = 760 mmHg
so base on this your answer might be
= 3,327.5 / 760
= 4.3782 atm might be your answer
or =4.4 atm
