The Tums is often used for treatment of "acid reflux" of the stomach, a condition in which a reduction in pH interferes with efficient enzyme action. Tums is a medicine and it is an antacid to provide heartburn relief in seconds. Acid can back up from the stomach and flow into the esophagus.tums antacid goes to work in seconds to start buffering and neutralizing gastric acid in the esophagus where the pain of heartburn starts. And it keeps working as it dissolves, neutralizing gastric acid in the stomach, too.
According to the readings given the pH is 8 which is basic. As pH decreases it is acidic in nature and pH increases basic in nature. In our body it is maintained at pH 2 which is acidic. But if it decreases still more there will be a heartburn. So to neutralize this Tums is used. As Tums enter the body , with which it has pH 8, They work by neutralizing the acid in the stomach, which in turns blocks the extraction of nutrients from food, including the absorption of magnesium, and enables the pancreas to produce pancreatic enzyme secretion.
