Question

C=Creatine

CP=Creatine Phosphate

(a) Calculate the equilibrium constant for the reaction: CP+ADP --> <-- C+ATP   (arrows suppose to be one on top of the other)

(b) In resting muscle, [CP]/[C]= 2

Underline one choice in the parentheses and show calculation to fill in the blank.

The reaction in (a) becomes exergonic whenever the ratio of [ATP]/[ADP] (falls bellow, rises above) ___________.

- To answer use the following Table to calculate DeltaG^0':

- K'eq= e^ -DeltaG^0'/RT

Standard free energies of hydrolysis of some phosphorylated compounds

Explanation / Answer

(a) Calculate the equilibrium constant for the reaction: CP+ADP --> <-- C+ATP (arrows supposed to be one on top of the other):<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Equilibrium Constant Calculation:

Phosphocreatine + ADP <?xml:namespace prefix = v ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" />  creatine + ATP

The ?G value for phosphocreatine is -12.6 kJ/mol. ( in the attached pics it was given -10.3 kJ/mol . but the correct value is -12.6. if it not conveinent substitute -10.3 in the same caluculation).

Insert the value in the standard equation:

?G = RTlnk

-?G/RT = lnk

k = e-?G/RT

The gas constant, R = 8.31451 J K-1 mol-1. The temperature, T, is 25
