Question
This was a lab where we are trying to determine the R value form the equation PV=nRT , Mg+2HCl-----MgCl2+ H2
There are 2 question after the lab... Our experimental values were with 2% error to the theoretical value.
Please answer the following IN EXTREME DETAIL and REASONING
1:If air enters the gas collecting buret before hydrogen gas is generated and is not removed, will
the reported value for the gas law constant be too high, too low, or unaffected? Explain your
reasoning.
2. If all the connections in the apparatus are not airtight and some hydrogen gas escapes during
the reaction, will the reported value for the gas law constant be too high, too low, or
unaffected? Explain your reasoning.
LOts of points will be awarded!
