This answer should be 1 - 1 1/2 page answer

Question: The following are (SE) Systems Engineering roles.

Requirements Owner

System Designer

System Analyst

Validation/Verification Engineer

Logistics/Ops Engineer

Glue among Subsystems

Customer Interface

Technical Manager

Information Manager

Process Engineer

Coordinator

Pick any two SE roles from above and write a blog article on each role and how it will be defined in an agile delivery environment and answer the following questions.

What will the roles key deliverable be?

What differences do you see how the role will change between waterfall and agile environments?

Write your opinion if systems engineering and agile are compatible and provide your analysis.

NOTE:

Remember to submit 2 blog articles

Assessment: Your understanding of agile methodology. Your analysis and insights.

Explanation / Answer

Requirements Owner:

Requirements owner converts customer needs into the specific and well-documented requirements which will be designed and developed. Requirement includes all functional requirements should be captured properly. Requirement owner will check and assess the impact of the requirements on other components of the system and accordingly the requirements are modified. Requirement owner will follow up with system designer and consult in case of any doubt whether the requirements can be achieved and in any technical challenges are there.

System Designer:

System Designer comes in picture after the task of requirement owner is finished. System Designer is the one who creates high level architecture of the system and other major components of the system. System Designer will work on achieving the requirements using various system components.

In Waterfall model software development is to be completed as one single project, which is then divided into different phases, with each phase appearing only once during the SDLC whereas in Agile model project is delivered in iterations of different phases. Hence, in waterfall model, Once the requirement is finalized it can’t be changed until the final project is delivered whereas in Agile method if any requirement change is their it can be taken care in next immediate iteration.

The role of requirement owner or System Designer changes from waterfall to agile environment, In waterfall model once a phase is over and moved forward like requirement phase to system design and forward then the role of requirement owner and system designer comes to still whereas in Agile process with iterations, requirement owner and system designer will be active throughout the project development phase.

Systems engineering and agile are not completely compatible. System engineering process involves all the roles listed:

Requirements Owner

System Designer

System Analyst

Validation/Verification Engineer

Logistics/Ops Engineer

Glue among Subsystems

Customer Interface

Technical Manager

Information Manager

Process Engineer

Coordinator

Whereas in Agile process, Requirements owner(aka the business analyst) collects the customer needs, process them after consulting with the system analyst(or technical consultant) and forwards to the system designer(or developer), after the system development is completed, the business analyst may review if needed if the design is as per business requirements and then it is forwarded to the Quality Assurance team, if any defects found it is send back to the system designer else customer performs a User Acceptance Testing and finally the design is accepted.
