1)b) because when you have the cold solution and add the activated carbon the impurities will attachet to the active site and if you add the carbon when the solution is hot, probably the impurities will be disolved in the solution and won't attachet to the carbon.

2) a) decant the solution or destilate

b) rub a glass wand against the glass containing the solution so it can be a base for the cristal formation

c)add activate carbon

d) you can redisolve it with the solvent or extract and wash it to eliminate the mother liquid
