The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) claims that the $3.8 Billion dollar Boston Harbor Cleanup has been a great success.

a.) Please present evidence (data for a specific parameter) that water quality is better in Boston Harbor than it was 25 years ago (and cite the source of this data). Explain why this data supports your claim that water quality is better now. How does this better water quality improve ecosystem functions?

b.) What can you do to make the water quality (with respect to this parameter) even better? What could levels of the parameter give above be like 25 years into the future. How clean can Boston Harbor water become (with respect to your measurement)? What controls the trajectory of this parameter? Please be specific.

Explanation / Answer

1) Boston harbor was on of the polluted and dirtiest harbour. But now it became as a wornderful place. It is really the US environmental success. Today  Bacterial counts, The frequency of closures of harbor beaches, PCB (polychlorinated biphenyls) concentrations are reduced. The concentration of heavy metals are also declined here. These are all very toxic to the life of natural creatures. The reduction of these harmful sources may rise the number of different plant and fuanal species in water.

2) Now the quality of waters in boston are very good. The quality of waters mainly influenced by the bacterial, heavy metals, pollutants from factories and crudeoil leakage from ships. So all these people commertial process may cause the decreasing of the quality of waters. So we must control the manmade pollutant processes and must monitor the species behavior also.
