Question

Glycolysis has to “prime” the substrate glucose before it can subsequently extract energy from the pathway. What is the compound it uses to do this?

a NADH.      b. NAD+.        c. GTP.            d. ADP.           e. ATP

The degradation and recycling of biological macromolecules occurs in the

a)Proteasome b)Endoplasmic reticulum c)Nucleus d)Lysosome e)Both a and d.

The function of the light reactions of photosynthesis is to oxidize ___________ and reduce

a)water, NADH b)water. NAD+ c)water, NADP+ d)oxygen, e)NADP+

Which of the following is not true of the enzyme ribulose bis-phosphate carboxylase (RUBISCO)

a. It is responsible for photorespiration when O2 rather than CO2 is added to ribulose bis-phosphate

b. It is found in the stroma of the chloroplast

c. It “fixes” CO2 to phosphoenolpyruvate to make oxaloacetate.

d. It is the most abundant protein on earth (true)

Explanation / Answer

1. During Glycolysis, ATP were utilized.

In the first step of Glycolysis, One ATP is utilized to convert Glucose into Glucose-6-phosphate. Then Glucose - 6-phosphate converted into Fructose - 6-phosphate. In the next step Fructose-6-phosphate converted into Fructose 1,6-diphosphate by utilizing one more ATP. But in the later steps, NADH2 and ATP were synthesized.

2. Degradation and recycling of macromoleculus like proteins were takes place in proteosomes. These proteosomes contains enzyme like protease which breakdown the protein into simpler form like amino acids. These Aminoacids further utilized during the protein synthesis. Endo plastic reticulum helps only in synthesis of proteins and not in degradation. And lysosomes helps in degradation and not in recycling.

3. The function of light reaction is to oxidize water and to reduce NADP+.

Light reaction occurs in the thylakoid membrane. Where water oxidized to give oxygen and two electrons at PS II. Oxygen diffuses through membrane into stromal then to cytoplasm then reaches stomata and diffuses into atmosphere. Two electrons through electron transport system reached PS I and ultimately reduces NADP+ into NADPH.

4. RUBiSCo do not fixes Carbon dioxide oxide into Phosphoenol pyruvate to make Oxaloacetate. Instead it fixes Carbon dioxide into glucose.

And remaining all options regarding the enzyme RUBiSCo are true.
