Question
Please help me find the Net Iconic Equations for these Chemical Reactions: a. Cu+4HNO3(aq)= Cu (NO3)2 (aq)+2NO2(g)+2H2O(l) b. Cu(NO3)2(aq)+2NaOH(aq)=Cu(OH)2(s)+2NaNO3(aq) c.Cu(OH)2(s)=CuO(s)+H2O(l) d. CuO(s)+H2SO4(aq)=CuSo4(aq)+H2O(l) e.CuSO4(aq)+Zn(s)=ZnSO4(aq)+Cu(s)Explanation / Answer
Steps 1&2: Write and Balance the molecular equation (already done in this case) Cu(NO3)2 + 2NaOH -> Cu(OH)2 + 2NaNO3 Step 3: Rewrite the equation showing all substances in their ionic form while in solution. This is the ionic equation. According to the solubility rules, everything in the equation is soluble with the exception of Cu(OH)2, so everything else will dissolve and your ionic equation should look like this (sorry, looks a little sloppy, but the charges should be superscripts, and the "aq" and "s" shold be subscripts): Cu 2+(aq) + 2NO3-(aq) + 2Na+ (aq) + 2OH-(aq) -> Cu(OH)2 (s) + 2Na+ (aq) +2NO3 -(aq) Step 4: Cancel the spectator (aq) ions, and you whatever is left is the net ionic equation, so your final answer should be: Cu 2+ (aq) + 2OH- (aq) -> Cu(OH)2 (s) Similarly for the rest of them . Good Luck :D
