Explanation / Answer

Etiology refers to the causes of disease. In the given case history, the man handled a parakeet which is suffering with respiratory illness. It means that bird is already suffering with psittacosis disease. This disease is also called as parrot fever and this infection is caused by the obligatory intracellular bacterium called chlamydia psittaci. This disease is very rare in humans.                                                                                                                       As the name indicates it is acquired by the parrots or birds which carries this infection and pass it to the humans.Humans catch this parrot fever from birds which carry this infection simply by handling these birds or by inhale the fine particles of its urine or other bodily excretions. This disease is also infected if we kiss these birds.       In the given case history, the man handled a parakeet which is suffering with psittacosis and after a month he experienced intense pain in legs followed by severe chills and headache. This means this man acquired this inection by handling this infected bird and after the incubation period of approximately one month he experienced the symptoms of this disease. In this case the main cause or etiology of this disease is handling a bird which is suffering from this psittacosis infection. And during the handling of this bird he may inhale bodily secretions of this infected bird and acquired this infection.
