Question
This is from a reduction of methylene blue lab.
nearest U.U3 g. 11. The next series of operations must be done as quickly as possible. Simultaneously initiate data collection and add the ascorbic acid to Trial 1 solution and swirl to mix. Rinse the cuvette twice with this solution and fill the cuvette about 34full with solution. Insert the cuvette into the spectrometer. A decay plot will be generated on the LabQuest screen.211 Data collection can be suspended when the absorbance decreases below about 0.05.212 A curve similar to Figure 30.2 is produced. Note that the first absorbance reading is recorded at 14 seconds into the run. Dispose of the sample to the waste beaker.Explanation / Answer
This is to minimize loss of decay data. This is why it is recommended to do this step as quickly as possible.
Starting the instrument beforehand allows more data to be collected when compared to starting data collection after the prepared sample is placed in the spectrometer. As this is a kinetics lab each and every data point lost deviates the k overall value from the actual value.
The variance is attributed to being too slow to mix and place the solution in the spectrometer, not correctly diluting, or fingerprints on the cuvette.
