You've been hired by CellMart, the leading cell culture supplier. Their slogan "Got a problem? We've got a cellution-for less!" The job of your team is to use your cell culture skills to solve the world's problems in medicine and agriculture. Identify one problem in each area that you would like to conquer and explain concisely how you could use cell culture to find a "cellution." An example from energy (not one of the two areas for your research group) would be to genetically engineer and replicate by cell culture plants that produce oils that can easily be-processed into biofuels. Explanation / Answer

Medicine-

Problem: Organ failure can be overcome by cell culture techniques.

Solution: Stem cells from the patient or his/her relative [sibling mostly or child] can be used to prepare organs or tissues damaged. This can be used for replacement. Organ and tissue culture would be very beneficial in this problem.

Agriculture-

Problem: Drought resistance in plants, More CO2 absorbing ability.

Solution: Pollution and lack of water for irrigation are major areas of concern. Genetically modified plants grown with the help of tissue culture can be of great value. Plants which are able to fix more and more CO2 from the air, would not only inrease the productivity but also reduce pollution to great extent. Also, drought resistant plants would be beneficial for areas where water scarcity is prevelant. This would provide food to people whos suffer because of lack of rain or irrigation.
