Question

I am to translate reaction given in words into unbalancedreaction, and then balance them (using electrons, H2O and H+) tofully balanced net ionic equation. I was given the reaction Copper reacts with dilute nitric acid to form copper (II)nitrate and the gas nitric oxide, NO. Write the net ionicequation for the reaction. Any tips on how to read above and write that into the balanced(or unbalanced) equation? All I get at this point is Cu + NO--> Cu 2+ + NO, which is completely wrong. Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you! Explanation / Answer

The balanced equation is:
3Cu + 8HNO3 ---> 3Cu(NO3)2 + 2NO + 4H2O
