Question
Hello, I am giving some information here which need to be used to answer the questions:
Crazy Krezzie’s Shoe Box
Crazy Krezzie’s Shoe Box is a chain of family shoe stores spread throughout the Midwest. They offer
shoes in five categories. (Men, Women, Children, Teens, Athletic). The CEO, Ted Bear, was brought
in by the owner 3 years ago when he saw that with the closing of the Kinney Shoe chain a void may be
left in the family shoe area. At the time, Krezzie’s was located in only one state. By acquiring several
small independent shoe stores, it now has a market presence in several states. They now have district
offices to oversee each state. Store managers report directly to their district manager for most things.
Until the expansion, the whole company was managed by the owner with the managers of his 4 stores
reporting directly to him. As a former captain in the US Army, he felt he had the skills needed to handle
the operations at that time. The computer systems were the same in each store and with the help of his
CIO, Debbie Delphi and CFO, Bill A. Lot, he was able to put together reports from the data collected
that allowed him to plan for the future. The computer systems were all kept running smoothly by his old
army buddy, Arron Onasis.
Things have changed a lot in the last 3 years. The store computer systems are no longer homogeneous.
Krezzie stores are now represented in several different regional markets and now carry specialty lines in
each of their 5 major categories. The number of people has grown at all levels of the company. The
number of outside companies that they deal with has also exploded.
The owner felt that he was losing control and brought Ted on board to help. However, it seems that they
have lost the ability to bring together the information needed to make companywide decisions. Arron
has convinced the owner that they need to build a data warehouse so that the data will be available to
make strategic decisions.
YOU are the person Arron has brought in to head the development team.
You and Arron have put together the Mission Statement for the development of the Crazy Kressie’s
Data Warehouse Project.
“Create a data warehouse that will allow management to understand the marketing dynamics in stores
across the whole company. Analysis of inventory throughput will be supported along with trend analysis
etc..”
Here are the questions need to answer:
1. Please give a short one-paragraph description of the data warehouse you are doing an initial design of.
3. Do you feel that they are best suited for that role? If so why? If not, who do you feel may be a better choice?
4. Please address any issues you feel may cause problems in the successful completion of the project. Also give ways in which you might handle them.
5. Finally, in your opinion, do you feel this project should be undertaken by our consulting firm?
Explanation / Answer
1. Data warehouse should be designed for each store. The initial database should consist of all the inventory in the store including the name, price, manufactured date of the toys. The manager of the store should oversee the operations and should check the profit of the store daily based on the total sales of the day which can be calculated by the store.
2. I think the current roles are good but one thing which can improve is the site manager role. He can directly oversee everything and can send the details to the board of directors daily because it is very diffcult for a single person to handle all the work.
3. Becuase of the changing marketing dynamcis it is difficult to follow this strategy at all the aread becuase of the local competition. I think the company should hire a specific Marketing and Business head specific to each area to cater the local needs and to handle local competition.
4. Yes it should be undertaken by a consulting company to get the company into a better shape.
