The greater the energy gap between the splitted orbitals, the higher will be the energy required to excite the electron onto higher energy state orbitals, and hence the wavelength of the emitted wavelength will be lesser and so the color of the emitted light will also vary, depending on the delta E value.

This is because in tetrahedral complexes, the gap between the splitted orbitals (dE value ) is very less. so it is very difficult to cause the electrons to pair up, and hence the electrons occupy the higher energy level orbitals before completely filling up the lower energy orbitals, and hence the resulting tetrahedral complexes are high-spin.
