Question

A sample of neon gas has a volume of 3.1 L and a temperature of 12 C. Find the new volume (L) of the gas if the temperature rises to 32 C. Assume the pressure and amount of gas remain constant. Please show your process: the gas laws really confuse me. A sample of neon gas has a volume of 3.1 L and a temperature of 12 C. Find the new volume (L) of the gas if the temperature rises to 32 C. Explanation / Answer

Initial temperature = T1= 12C=12+273 = 285K

Final temperature = T2= 32C= 32+273 = 305K

Initial volume = V1= 3.1L

Final volume = V2=?

At constant pressure , given massof gaseous slubstance , Volume of gas is directly proportional to the absoulte temperature. This is called as Charles law.

V1/T1= V2/T2

3.1/285 = V2/305

V2= 3.32L

New volume of Ne gas= 3.32L
