Explain me the question E!

C. Complete the flow chart for this process. Label the number of each step and fill in any missing parts in the boxes or on the reagent lines. Note that Step 10 is separate and not part of the flow chart, so it is not included Agt, Pb AgClis, PbCl2) Hot H0 Pb2+ NH3 KI AgCls D. On the flow chart, use different colored pens or pencils to circle the steps that applied to each unknown. Explain how these helped in the identification. E. Explain how unknowns were or could have been incorrectly identified by you or others and how such mistakes could be avoided for the future.

Explanation / Answer

Color of both AgCl(s) and PBCl2(s) precipitate is white and hence,we might get mistaken with appearance and assume it is AgCl.To test if it is actually AgCl or PbCl2 , we have to test with the given procedure as in part D,as soon as you add hot water in PbCl2 ,it will dissolve a bit and when KI is added ,it will form PbI2(S) ,which is yellow in color. This will differentiate between two precipitates
