a. Based on the name of the needle, what space is the needle usualy directed into?
b. What layers of the skin must the hypodermic needle pass through, in order to get to this space? ( in your answer, include all sublayers of the dermis or epidermis that may apply. Assume the needle is passing through thin skin.)
c. What structures in this space do you think are the likely targets of these needles?

a) Hypodermic injection is subcutaneous injection.
b) The hypodermic needle must pass through the epidermis- the outermost layer of the skin and dermis - the layer beneath that.
Under this layer , the hypodermis is present which contains the subcutaneous fat layer which also contains the vins and arteries.
c) The blood vessels - the veins and arteries are the usual targets. The injected material in this way is spread throughout the body.
Injection can also be given to a muscle, like the buttocks- Gluteus maximus or rapid absorption.
