2 attempls left Check my work Be sure to answer all parts. One of the compounds used to increase the octane rating of gasoline is toluene (pictured). Suppose 0.259 mL of toluene (d 0.867 g/mL) is nsmmed when a sample of gasoline burns in air o) How many grams of oxygen are needed for complete combustion of the toluene? (b) How many total moles of gaseous products form? mol (c) How many molecules of water vapor form? 1o electmolecules (Enter your answer in scientific notation) Prev 15 of 16111 Next 6 7

Explanation / Answer

C7H8(l) + 9O2(g) ---> 7CO2(g) + 4H2O(g)

a) mass of toluene = v*d

             = 0.259*0.867

             = 0.224 g

b) no of mol of toluene(C7H8) reacted = 0.224/92 = 0.00243 mol

c) 1 mol toluene(C7H8) = 7 mol CO2(g) = 4 mol H2O(g)

   no of mol of gaseous product = 0.00243*11 = 0.02672 mol

d) no of mol of watre vapour formed = 0.00243*4 = 0.00972 mol

    no of molecule of watre vapour formed = 0.00972*6.023*10^23

          = 5.854*10^21 molecules.
